Interesting use of Animals.

Kate Gilliland

I find this work captivating, surreal and beautiful. I love the juxtaposition of the dead wildlife with the silver and leather casing. These pieces are from Kate Gilliland's collection "The Weird and Wonderful" which they are, exactly how she describes them.

Kate Gilliland's
'Small mouse on suede bed, encased in silver locket'

I love the fragility of this piece.

 Kate Gilliland's

'Bird in silver harness'

Its inspiring to see how the animals are exhibited in their natural ways and forms making them more beautiful and relatable.

New Experimentations

I love these feathers! I find them truly inspiring and cannot wait to experiment with them. They where very fun to draw from and i feel they will push my work into new and exciting directions.

This ring is capturing the idea of trapping parts of an animal. Casing them in miniature glass bottles reminds me of science experiments and the idea of letting animal qualities into all aspects of our lives.

Artist Statement

My project revolves around the idea of illustrating a story through three dimensional forms and wearable's. The story of Noah's ark gave me great imagery to work with as well as the opportunity to challenge the viewer and wearer's pre- conception of being joined and enclosed with another body. Researching childhood nursery rhymes and stories helped provoke a deeper understanding of animals' care and the natural way of lie, which questions our relationship with animals today.

Stacking Bangles

After much thought and consideration I developed the idea so that the bangles can stack into each other as well as being worn.
